Using Google Bard to Optimise Your Website

If you’ve been using ChatGPT and have marvelled at its generating capabilities thus far, wait til you wield Google’s own AI chatbot - especially for optimising your website for digital success!

Using Bard as your preferred Gen AI tool totally makes sense: It has direct access to a supremely vast database of searches and results. What with the billions of web pages Google has crawled, indexed, and ranked! Bard also provides real-time information on search trends and can adapt to recent algorithm updates.

In this SEO Premier blog, we will explore key areas where you can consider Bard your friend when it comes to fine-tuning your SEO strategies for your own brand or your client’s!

SCHEMA MARKUP

Schema markup has been an essential tool for improving SEO and user experience. It is structured data used by Google and other search engines to better understand and display information in search results. It provides a standardised way to label and categorise content on web pages, making it easier for search engines to extract and present relevant details to users. It enhances the visibility of web pages by enabling rich snippets, knowledge graphs, and other rich search results features.

But how can Bard help you create schema markup? Like how you would any Gen AI tool, simply input the prompt to get accurate, current schema markup for your webpage.

For example: “Create schema markup for [Insert web URL].”

ON-PAGE OPTIMISATION

You can bring your on-page optimisation tasks to new higher levels when you tap Bard to provide essential on-page recommendations to your website or web page. Bard can help halve the time to do a full-suite web audit by quickly analysing certain elements of your site.

Some prompts include:

  • For analysing your webpage: “Analyse the on-page elements of [Insert web URL] with the goal of increasing the page’s ranking for XYZ keyword.”
  • For writing your metadata: “Create a Google SERP-optimised meta title and meta deion for [Insert web URL].”
  • For building header tags: “Create a comprehensive analysis of header tags of [Insert web URL] with the goal of ranking for XYZ keyword.”

Header tags, also known as HTML header elements (H1 to H6), are used to structure and format content within a web page. They define the hierarchy of information, with H1 being the highest level. Properly implementing header tags not only enhances readability but also helps search engines understand the content's structure and importance. This, in turn, can improve SEO and make the webpage more user-friendly by guiding readers through the content.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

If the first two areas didn’t make you drop your jaw, Bard can also help you conduct a thorough competitor analysis.

In SEO, competitor analysis involves evaluating and understanding the online strategies of competing websites in the same industry or niche. This analysis includes assessing competitors' keyword rankings, backlink profiles, content quality, and on-page optimization. By learning what works for successful competitors, you can discover valuable keywords, content ideas, and link-building tactics to improve your own website's visibility in search results.

Prompts for your competitor analysis tasks include:

  • “Identify the top competitors for [Insert web URL] for XYZ keywords.”
  • “Analyse the content strategy used by competitor XYZ for {Insert web URL]”

TECHNICAL SEO

Between ChatGPT and Bard, it’s ChatGPT that’s a more reliable tool when it comes to providing more technical SEO recommendations. ChatGPt uses external plugins to identify technical SEO challenges like duplicate content and broken links. So far, Bard only distinguishes itself as a pool of foundational knowledge in SEO, but it still struggles to be a top resource when conducting live audits of websites with the goal of pinpointing technical issues.

In some prompts and results, there appeared mentions of paid tools like Sitebulb, Screaming Frog, and SEMrush. However, we believe that these are just content that reference the aforementioned tools, and not Bard necessarily having access to the tools itself.

Bard, like many other generative AI tools, has emerged as a game-changer in how SEO specialists carry out their optimisation tasks. But let’s not forget that this technology is still in its infancy and will continue to evolve. When it comes to good old on-page optimisation, it’s always better to rely on your SEO foundational skills that are agnostic to any tool.
